Financial Help For Hospital Copays
What Many People Miss Out On!
This section will be for the benefit for someone who is either on Original Medicare and does not have a Medicare Supplement policy, or someone who is on Medicare Advantage. This does not apply for someone with a Medicare Supplement policy or someone that has their Medicare deductibles and coinsurance covered by Medicaid.
When you are on Original Medicare or if you have a Medicare Advantage plan, then you will be responsible for some hospital deductibles and copays. In certain areas you will find Medicare Advantage plans that fully cover you for hospital stays and services, but in most cases, there are copays for:
- Inpatient stays
- Outpatient procedures and surgeries
- Radiology
- Diagnostic testing
- And more
Sometimes these copays can add up into the thousands of dollars and not every Medicare beneficiary has thousands of dollars to cover. So what can you do if you are hit with a large hospital bill?
Every hospital system that I know of has a Financial Assistance department where, if you qualify, your hospital deductibles, coinsurance and copays will be either reduced or eliminated. And this is even if you have a Medicare Advantage plan in most cases.
So, if you have some large hospital expenses, contact their Financial Assistance department and see if you qualify.
As an example, here’s a link to UVA Health Systems information about eligibility for financial assistance.
I hope this information helps you!
